Aula Talks

joi_stamp.jpg Aula Talks is an ongoing series of videotaped lectures by people who've got something interesting to say about creativity, society, and technology. Past speakers include David Weinberger, Lawrence Lessig, Joichi Ito, and others. The events are open to Aula members and anyone who is interested, free of charge.

Movement event

movement_stamp.jpg Aula 2006 - Movement took place on June 14-15 in Helsinki. With over 300 participants, over 80 special guests, and over 25 talks it is the largest Aula event to date. Appearances by leaders like Martin Varsavsky, Tyler Brule, Alastair Curtis, and many others were punctuated by interludes in dance, music, and - yoga.

Point of View weblog

pov_stamp.jpg The Aula Point of View (POV) began its life as the digest of the Aula member weblogs in 2002, edited by Abbas Raza and a band of coeditors. The blog continues as 3quarksdaily.com. This is the complete archive of the original POV. We hope that you'll have as much fun reading as we had writing it!

Exposure book

mom03_stamp.jpg The 'Exposure: From Friction to Freedom' book is a collection of essays, talks and discussions about the future of personal publishing, copyright, and civil liberties. It is based on the Aula Meeting of Minds '03 event. Contributors include John Perry Barlow, Cory Doctorow, Clay Shirky, and many others.

Aula Cooltown

cooltown_stamp.jpg The Aula Cooltown project, by designers Jokko Korhonen and Mika Ihanus, explored ways in which Hewlett-Packard's Cooltown technology could be configured to support the exchange ideas in Aula. Two new concepts were produced in the project: the PlayLux display system and PlayPad digital sketchpad.

Hunaja mobile social software

hunaja_stamp.jpg The Hunaja (Finnish for 'Honey') project developed mobile social software that enabled Aula members to announce their presence in Aula's social club using RFID tags. Members could check who was currently in the space using the Web or a mobile phone. The award-winnning project has been featured widely in media.

Future Library Forum

futlib_stamp.jpgThe Future Library Forum is an exhibit of concepts about the future of the library as a center of local community. It was developed by Aula for the conference "A Space for the Future - Library Buildings in the 21st Century", organized by the Helsinki City Library in 2002.

Meeting of Minds '01

mom01_stamp.jpg The Aula Meeting of Minds 2001 brought together people from the fields of architecture and urban space, government and grassroots organizing, the arts, and technology for a weekend of discussion regarding self-organizing social systems.

The Helsinki Space

helsinkispace_stamp.jpg Aula's Social Club in Helsinki became the center of a community of over four hundred people working in different fields of life including science, art, business, government and NGOs. The social club operated from 2001 to 2002, after which Aula participated in the design of similar spatial concepts in Helsinki, Latvia, and Japan. The Aula space now operates as a cafe.
